Those First Few Days

This print is the first of my current lockdown series and it is all about those strange first few days of 2020 when all I could do was sit quietly and try to come to terms with it all - as always I'm the big eared character - this time in the top left. The garden was just beginning to come to life - the daffodils, crown imperials and fritillaries were emerging and Marple was supervising it all, providing a strong steady presence and one that was very much needed.

I always start with drawing from observation and then return to the studio to work on the drawing - I've included the drawing in the pictures so you can see part of my process.

This print is printed on Japanese paper. I feel transparency and fragility suits the subject perfectly and it is very dark blue in colour. I do hope you like it !

I print everything from my studio using a small wooden hand press and my etching press. The finished result is unique and original with no two prints being alike.
