PRINTMAKING WORKSHOPS

NEW ONLINE WORKSHOPS

Due to the current coronavirus outbreak I’m unable to run workshops from my studio but I’m happy to announce that I’m now able to offer my Introduction to Linocut, Reduction Linocut, 3 Colour Block Linocut, Introduction to Drawing and Drawing from Paintings workshops online. All the workshops are 3 hours and I’m limiting my numbers to 5 students to ensure you all get individual attention. Please email me to book and I will send out all the details.

All workshops cost £35

I’m taking a break over August but will be running a full programme from September.
Please email me to add your name to my email list so you are the first to know as they fill up quickly!

Introduction to Linocut

It is a 3 hour class where you will learn the basics of linocut – how to use the tools, create and carve your own design and ink and print it successfully. You will need your own kit but I will send you a list before hand with suggestions on where to source the materials

Reduction Linocut

In reduction linocut (otherwise known as suicide linocut), the design is produced from one single linocut block, layering up the colour each time the linocut is cut. This technique is a challenging way to produce an edition of prints, as by the end of the session there will be little to none left of your linocut block! Detailed instructions will be given before the start of the workshop so you will have time to prepare your design and be clear about what will be achieved during the workshop.

3 Colour Block Linocut

In this workshop you will be using 3 separate blocks for 3 different colours. You will learn how to design, carve and print a multi block linocut in the colours of your choice and how to register the layers. At the end of the workshop you will have printed a small edition of your print. Detailed instructions will be sent out beforehand.

Introduction to Drawing

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners to come along and have a go at drawing in a relaxed and supportive environment. We will look at mark-making, ways of ‘seeing’ and draw from a simple still life set up. We will use a range of materials including charcoal, pens and pencils. I will also suggest ways to incorporate drawing into your life so that it becomes a fun way to document your travels and everyday life.

Drawing from paintings

This workshop is suitable for those who have some experience with drawing or have done my ‘Introduction to Drawing’ workshop. In the workshop you will be drawing from a selection of paintings from the National Gallery in London . Working from the masters is one of best ways to look at art. By drawing from the paintings you will begin to learn how paintings ‘work’ and in turn enhance your drawing skills. We will also look at the paintings together and analyse them as a group.

Alternatively if you would like a one to one then email and we can arrange a time.

NORMAL STUDIO WORKSHOPS

Every month I run a variety of one day print making workshops , drawing classes and book making workshops from my studio. For the beginner then the ‘Introduction to linocut’ is a good place to start. The ‘Reduction linocut’ and ‘colour block’ workshops are suitable for students who have completed the ‘Intro’ workshop or have previous linocut experience. The ‘drypoint’ workshop is a great introduction to ‘Intaglio’ printmaking and is suitable for anyone who loves drawing and wants to extend their practice into print. The drawing workshop is suitable for complete beginners who would like to learn how to draw and the book making class is suitable for anyone who is interested in making their own books!

All the courses run from 10-4pm. They cost £60 with all materials and homemade cake included !

I limit the numbers to 4 students per workshop to ensure everyone gets individual tuition and attention.
I’m happy to run workshops during the week if you can gather together 3 or more people together – do email if you would like to organise a day.
